I am a painter of images which have meaning for me personally. I am drawn to different subjects because they symbolize for me various psychological, social, political, and spiritual realities of the human condition. I abrade the painted or drawn surface of a specific image with speculative marks to allow that subject to reveal itself. The layering of paint and the different weights of graphite and charcoal are congruent with my process of discovery. Shapes change as do colors, lines, and even the image itself. But the emotion still lies beneath the surface and is hopefully recognized. The purpose of these explorations is to present metaphorical offerings to the viewer about the commonality of life’s experiences personal or otherwise.
